Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly IS a Doula???

According to DONA International a doula is “a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. Countless scientific trials examining doula care demonstrate remarkably improved physical and psychological outcomes for both pregnant, birthing, and postpartum people and their baby. Doulas have a positive impact on the well-being of the entire family.”

Who can benefit from hiring a doula?

Any new or seasoned mom who is having a baby and wants support for any and all steps along the way!

What does a doula do?

A doula does many things dependent upon the needs of the family. We can listen, educate, feed, change diapers, do light cleaning, prepare snacks or light meals, prepare and clean bottles or pump parts, do overnight care so you can get much needed rest, and anything in between!

If my partner is with me, why do I need a doula?

That’s a great question! What is super important to know is a doula does not take the place of your partner! We support both of you. We take care of things in the background so you are your partner can do this together.

What does the doula do at night if I plan to breastfeed?

As your doula, I will sleep in the same area as your baby and bring him/her to you when it’s time to feed. If you would like, I can stay to help with any issues or for support, or I can leave you to have some quiet time with the baby and come back when you are finished. I can change, burp, and put the baby back to sleep so you can have as much rest as possible.

How long are typical shifts for a doula?

During the daytime hours we usually have a minimum shift of 4 hrs. and can stay as long as 12 hrs. dependent upon the needs of the family. During overnight hours, the minimum is 8hrs, usually 10pm-6am, but can also be as long as 12hrs, dependent upon needs.
